Once you book your session with Simply Baby, we will email you with additional information for your newborn session, but here is a list of commonly asked questions just in case.
Why do newborn sessions cost so much??
We promise that you’ll understand once you get here and watch your session take place. Newborn posing is a fine art that takes years of refining and perfecting. You want to be 100% certain your little one is in the safest hands possible. Your photographer not only needs to know how to use their camera, but how to safely pose your new baby. We have spent countless hours taking classes, a crazy amount of money on newborn workshops, and props, and more props. In order to stay on top of our game, we have to have the latest backdrops, bows, headbands, tiebacks, bonnets, hats, props, posing fabrics, wraps, Dollcake dresses and more Dollcake dresses!! Oh and insurance….we can’t forget insurance!!! Need I say more!!! You will have beautiful images that will last a lifetime!! We are a high-end, fine art newborn studio that will give you a personal experience that you will not find anywhere else. We can’t wait to work with you.
How old does my newborn need to be when we do the session?
Newborn sessions are usually scheduled between 5-15 days. This is done for many reasons. Newborn babies are more likely to curl up and remain sleepy for the duration of the session. They are much more tolerant of being posed and moved around than a 3 or 4 week old would be. Almost all of the sleepy newborn shots you see on our website are done with newborns that are 15 days old or younger. However if your baby is older than 2 or 3 weeks, please don’t worry!! We will still
get amazing images, we will just pose them a little differently.
How long does a session normally last?
Newborn sessions will usually run anywhere from an hour to 3 hours due to the frequent nurturing of the baby. Please expect a minimum of 2-3 hours. Your baby runs the show at our studio and we let them. We’ll take as many breaks as needed. Baby’s comfort and safety is our number one priority. We do have a “Swaddle Me Baby” session that only lasts an hour!! This is for those moms that don’t have the time to stay for a full newborn session or are on a strict budget, yet still want beautiful images of their newest addition.
Can I bring something special to our session?
We encourage our clients to bring something to their session to make it a little more customized. Whether your a huge sports fan, or serving our country,
we will do our best to include it. Please keep in mind that we have a million props as well. Bows, hats, pants, wraps, and anything else you can think of. So if you don’t have something special you want to bring, then no worries – we’ve got you covered!!
Can siblings, mom and dad be in some of the pictures?
Of course!!! Those shots will be done toward the end of the session unless we have talked about switching it up prior to your session. A lot of the time, someone will bring siblings during the last 30 minutes so they don’t get restless and grouchy. If you choose the swaddle me baby session, you may add a parent/sibling shot for an additional fee. This session is only 1 hour and was designed to be less expensive as a full newborn session and less time as well.
Can I be right there when you are doing my session?
We find that it goes smoother and faster if mommy isn’t right there, however our seating area is in the same space. When baby smells mommy, they think it’s time to wake up and eat!!! We also keep our newborn space at 88 degrees so baby stays comfy, which means the grown ups are going to be sweating (you will have air blowing your way but dress lightly) Just fyi, I will also have an assistant helping me with your newborn session. She has been very well educated on baby safety as well. Once again, your newborn baby is our number 1 priority!!
Why do I have to sign a contract and a model release?
Because you just do!! This covers myself and it covers you. Family and friends will be asked to sign one as well. It’s just how we do business!!
